GPS 10 bluetooth pairing.

Arghh this is driving me crazy. I bought a Garmin GPS 10 and had it
working with my Palm Tungsten T3, with mapopolis and pathaway, in a
snap. But I can't get it working with my laptop.

On the Palm I first paired the devices, using the secret code '1234'.
With Mapopolis or Pathaway on the Tungsten I just select bluetooth gps,
and then it asks me which bluetooth device I want to connect to. Then
it connects and I start navigating via NMEA sequences.

With the laptop (an IBM T40 with integrated bluetooth, with the WIDCOMM
stack 1.4.3 build 4 SP 0) I can pair the device. But when I try to
explore the services offered by the device I see know serial port. In
the bluetooth configuration I have, long ago, set up an incoming COM
port configured on COM5 (I use this to synch my Palm with my Laptop).
Seems to me I need to set up an outcoming COM port, which I think I did
in the "client applications" section. There is a COM6 configured
there.

Problem is I cannot, for the life of me, figure out how to get that
COM6 associated with any particular bluetooth device!

Arghh..

This is getting desparate. Garmin's website is useless. I might have
to try phoning them or something, but I'd get some no-mind CSR
person...

When I look at My Bluetooth Places on my PC, on the left hand side of the
window I can click on View or Modify Configuration. That takes me to a
window that has tabs like General, Accessibility, Discovery, Local Services,
Client Applications etc... By choosing Client Applications I get a list of
application name and Com port. There are buttons at the bottom for
Properties and Add COM Port. If I select Bluetooth Serial Port and hit
Properties I see that I can assign any COM port to that application. If for
some reason the appropriate COM ports are not available just click Add COM
Port and it will add another Serial Port and allow you to select the COM
port attached to that Serial device.

Hope this helps.

Cheers
TC
