XP File Transfer via Bluetooth

Posted: 02-06-2005, 05:50 AM
I set up a BT dongle recently on my pc - XP detected it and installed the
drivers - and could transfer files to my phone / PDA by right clicking on
the file and choosing 'Sendto Bluetooth device'. It would then allow me to
select the device and send straigh away.

I then changed some software - reinstalled XP I think with the service packs
(same as before) and now it asks me to choose the file I want to send at the
end of the 'Bluetooth File Transfer Wizard' - similar to before, but it
defeats the purpose of right clicking on a file and selecting 'sendto' if I
have to reselect the file at the end of the wizard.

Anyone seen this - more importantly, how to change it back to how it was?

I could never get right-click + send-to to work UNTIL I
accidentally discovered a little trick.

1. Make sure the phone's Bluetooth connection is on.
2. Right click on the Bluetooth icon in the icon tray and
pick "Send a file".
3. Use the wizard to send a file. It should go through.
4. Now right-click on some other file and pick "Send to"
then "Bluetooth device". This time the transfer should go
off as advertised.

For some reason, right-click + send-to fails on the first
try.

Similarly I discovered that if I try and send a file FROM
the phone TO the computer, the transfer always fails unless
I right-click on the Bluetooth icon in the icon tray first
and pick "Receive a file".

Right-click+send-to allows you to transfer several files at
a time to the phone by the way. However the wizard fires up
each time and you have to click "Finish" after each file.
