using nokia 6310 as headset for your laptop

Posted: 10-02-2004, 09:23 AM
Hi

i know it may sound as a strange question, but is it possible to use my BT
nokia phone as a headset for my laptop (reverse world e )

reason would be that if I want to dial somebody using skype i would just
speak and listen with my phone. Is this possible at all?
thx in advance

Arne

ASFAIK not possible, the best choice would be to get a BT Headset, and use
that. But ATM with XP SP2 - it's not much luck - since SP2 does'nt seem to
support audio profiles.

Serch for the supported profiles on you phone - if 'headset' shows up, then
yes.

But I doubt it will.

I didn't, but I indeed have SP2

what is ment with audio profiles? doesn't a headset have just a service
"headset" and if I connect to that, and choose "bluetooth audio" as default
sounddevice, won't it just work?

thx

It's the supported profiles of the BT device that plugs into your PC. Not
all PC BT devices (external or internal) support connecting to all external
BT devices. The least amount are BT headsets. SP2 doesn't support it. You
have to buy a PC BT dongle that supports it like TDK or Belkin and use their
drivers.

Typical use would be to use a BT headset==>BT PC==>VOIP Softphone.

Plenty of us are having trouble using Bluetooth Headsets with Win XP SP2 -
ie they don't work together, its to do with the fact that Win XP SP2 does
not support any headset audio profiles, it'll talk to phones and PDA's and
LAN devices, just not with audio.

I'm not having a headset yet, but i can imagine, that if I connect to the
headset profile of the BT headset, and i select "bluetooth audio" as my
sound device (it is already visible, the "bluetooth audio") it would just
work, right?

i have a dell latidude d800 with built in BT

NO! My Bluetooth places will have an "audio" profile but it won't work
unless the hardware/drivers support it.
