Yes, it's becoming popular. I was skeptical about it until I was driven to
get my first piece of Bluetooth hardware (nothing else available would work
in the particular application) then I decided to see what it could do and
found that the answer was "quite a lot". I think others are having the
same experience. But don't go thinking it's going to replace 802.11 or
anything--they serve different purposes.

But it's not a protocol. It's a set of specifications to govern everything but the actual implementation. From the way
the radio operates to the way nodes communicate, to the way the host PC talks to the dongle or chipset.
