Bluetooth file transfer from laptop to phone ?

Posted: 09-13-2004, 05:22 AM
Hello,
I have a Nokia 6230 and a Billionton Bluetooth USB dongle which I have
configured on my laptop.
When I go to My Bluetooth places and click on My Device, it shows all
the services like bluetooth serial port, file transfer etc. But when I
"Connect" from the phone to the laptop (after they have been paired of
course), the message I get on the laptop system tray icon is
"Phone6230 connected to Headset profile on Laptop1234".
I can choose an image on my phone and send it via BT to the laptop.
But I am unable to transfer anything from the laptop to the phone.
When I click the Phone6230 icon in Entire BT network on the laptop, it
shows an icon that says "Discovering services on Phone6230" and then
shows the icon with the caption "No Services Found on Phone6230".
I have faced the exact same problem with the Nokia 3650 also. So I
think there is something I am doing wrong here.
Is there a problem with the BT Dongle itself? Or is it a configuration
issue ?
Please advise me.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Best regards.

On my phone, a Sony-Ericsson T610, one of the selections under
Bluetooth is "Phone Services", which gives me a list of Bluetooth
services available on the phone. One of the services listed is "File
Transfer". If you can find such a menu on your phone, this will tell
you whether or not file transfer is available.

There is no such menu on my phone, strangely. I suppose there ought to
be some default set of services offered by Nokia Phones. But they just
dont show up. Even the connectivity is pathetic - the laptop will keep
searching for the bluetooth phone for hours on end if I dont try to
establish a connection from my mobile phone. Only when I initiate a
connection from my phone to the laptop, the laptop which is still
searching for devices in the bluetooth vicinity shows my phone in the
list.
I still dont know what is crappy - the bluetooth implementation on
Nokia 6230 or the Billionton Bluetooth USB Dongle.

If you know anyone else that has a different brand of
Bluetooth-enabled phone, or who has a different brand of USB dongle,
see how your phone shows up with their computer, and vice-versa.
That should help narrow down where the problem is.

Hi

I'm using a 6230 with an Epox bt dongle on windows XP. And it works great.
Sometimes though, I have a problem with windows not finding the phone after
a restart of the computer.

On the PC: When you look at the services the device offers (like serial port
etc). You should see: "OBEX file transfer". Go into that and you should see
the folders on your phone. And you can drag and drop files to/from the
phone.

You should try to see if there is an updated driver for your dongle.
