BT intercoms?

This may be the wrong group for this question, but it's the only
Bluetooth group my server carries, so please forgive me if this is
totatlly OT.

I'm interested in finding a Bluetooth-based intercom of some sort for
rider to passenger communication on a motorcycle. As such, the
headsets would have to be something that could be worn comfortably
under a helmet. For obvious reasons, the lack of wires between the
two riders is the ideal situation, so Bluetooth seems like a likely
candidate. However, I've been searching for days and not hit on a
solution; maybe I'm not searching for the right thing???

Does anyone on the group know of such a system? If so, I'd like to
get any details you may have.

I was looking for something similar, and finally settled on a much less
elegant (but much more versatile) solution. By combining a pair of cheap
FRS radios with VOX (Xact model XFR-102), a couple of hands-free neckband
ear/mic setups (Coby CV-M29), and a pair of 2.5mm jack to 3.5mm plug
adapters, you have a setup that works even between bikes that are separated
by a mile or so. Total cost: under $40 for the entire system, including
batteries. You might be able to find cheaper sources, but I picked up
everything (except the 2.5mm/3.5mm adapters) at buy.com. If you do find a
way to put together a cheap Bluetooth intercom, definitely post the method.
It will probably be more expensive, but certainly more compact!

George, thanks for the reply to my question; I had about given up on
getting any feedback on my question.

While your solution isn't quite as elegant as a BT system might be,
it does seem logical, except for the fact that you broadcast to
anyone on the same frequency and privacy selections; that's probably
not a big deal, I suppose, as the likelyhood of someone else on the
same settings within a mile is probably nil.

How well does the headphone/mic function inside a helmet? Is there
much wind noise? Are you and the passenger (are you using it that
way) able to converse without too much trouble? How comfortable are
the Colby units under the helmet?
