Initiate call using the cell phone's contact list ?

Imagine the only person you communicate with is your wife. In other
words, is it possible (feasible) for a bluetooth headset to turn on
the cell, dial a default number (the wife's number) and start the
communication, all by pressing a button on the headset ? Maybe this is
not the way bluetooth headsets operate now, but I am wondering if this
is even feasible.

I don't own a bluetooth headset with voice recognition, so please
forgive my lack of knowledge on the subject. By the way, does one has
to manually open the cell phone, turn it on, and speak the person's
name before the call actually starts, or is all of this taken care of
by the headset signal ? In other words, can you leave the cell phone
in your pocket and still initiate a call using the headset alone ?

I cannot answer to you initial question,
but I own a bluetooth headset,
the voice recognition is demanded to the phone,
so I can answer to you latest questions (it seems to me
to be different from previous..)

I can leave the phone in my pocket with bluetooth on.
I push the only button on the headset,
(the headset tell to the phone that I want to do a call)
I hear a bip,
I tell the name of the people I want to call,
The phone try to recognize the name.

If the name is recognized , tha call is initiate.

If the name is not recognized I heard some bips.

Finally: I can make a call only using a button
on my headset PLUS telling a name.


For your first question, if it is possible to make the call
by associating the button and a unique number,
I really dont' know..

Yes this is possible too. But there is no headset today that will do this.

I've also posted to alt.cellular.gsm on this but it would be nice if
some handset which had bluetooth also could dial digits. Look at the
Mortorola v60 color. It claims to do this, but it's not bluetooth and
it's not GSM. I guess the voice recognition just isn't there yet, but I
can dream. The Sendo X (look at phonescoop) looks as close as we'll
get.

I've also wanted voice dialling of numbers. It would be fairly simple to
implement. The problem I have with voice dialling either on my T610 or
HBH-15 is that's it's not reliable enough. IMO, adding a unique call
button to headsets might even require adding another profile & IMO,
there isn't enough demand for just a single number, especially with
voice dialling to do this far more flexibly (when it works).

I've got 'Wilfire' as my answerfone on Orange and 'she' can dial
numbers for me if I speak numbers to her.

Also my handsfree profile (Jabra BT250 / T610) enables automatic
dialing of the last number dialed

Is the voice recognition program running in the cellphone microchips,
or locally on a chip that is in the headset ? (whether people's names
or digits)

Wildfire is a service provide by Orange, the voice recognition
actually runs on a a server, it is a number you dial normally on a GSM
handset. Noy sure though if this service is offered to new subsribers.
