Bluetooth Future???

Posted: 05-24-2004, 07:48 PM
Hi,

I find Bluetooth amazing, and I am sure that it will be incorporated in many
of the new electronic things to come.

However I was wondering, what exactly will it be in?

Will I be able top buy Bluetooth headphones for my Discman?

Will I be able to buy a complete Bluetooth desktop? (monitor; printer;
speakers; webcam; mouse; keyboard)

And how long will it be until these gadgets come around, and are available
to a normal home computer user like myself?

Any ideas?

Danny

May be.

No.

Yes, already available.

Maybe, but you will need to compress the audio stream. For an example
look at http://www.bluemp3.de/ (partially in German).

Probably no. Current webcams tend to have problems with USB's bandwidth
(up to 12 MBit/s) and thus need compression. Bluetooth supports only up
to 723 kBit/s (per piconet).

Yes, already available from Logitech, Apple and Microsoft (and probably
others).

Is Bluetooth as fast as it will ever be, then? Is there no reason to
except a Bluetooth 2 or such?

On its way - with faster initialisation - thank God.
http://www.bluetooth.org/spec/
Look under Bluetooth 1.2. Someone else may know of more accessible info
on the actual differences. I don't think b/w will increase but channel
bonding may do it at some point in the future.

Bluetooth 1.2 does not give greater bandwidth.

1.2 enhancements are:
ESCO for better speach quality
Quicker connect - should be twice as fast
Adqaptive frequency Hopping
and Some flow control stuff in L2CAP
