I have a Bluetooth adaptor installed, (Belkin) and a nokia 6600.
But there is no "Bluetooth Audio Gateway" listed?
Why is this?

Perhaps you're not using the latest software. If I use the included software
with my BT adaptor, it doesn't include the audio gateway, but with the
newest WIDCOMM software from the manufacturer's website, it works just fine.
When my phone rings or I make a call, a box pops up on my computer and I can
choose if I want to use the PC as a headset.

Does the WIDCOMM stuff work with any adaptor, or is this for a specific
Bluetooth adaptor?

The manufacturer of my adaptor is TrendNet, and the software I download from
their webpage is from WIDCOMM but modified by TrendNet to fit my adapter. It
is my experience that the drivers from many vendors are based on the WIDCOMM
drivers.
If I look at the driver details for my TrendNet USB Bluetooth device it
says:
Driver Provider: WIDCOMM
Driver Date: 23-10-2002
Driver Version: 1.3.2.7

Nice one!
Didn't realise it would do that :-)
I have a Plantronics DSP-400 headset and TDK USB Bluetooth adapter.
I enabled the Audio Gateway which was shown in Bluetooth Neighbourhood on my
Nokia 6310i and Bingo! headset, microphone, and mobile phone call.
Much better quality than my Jabra BT200 headset direct to my phone.
***************
Now the slightly confusing bit.
On the PC, using the software setup which came with the TDK, I can explore
the Nokia 6310i which is paired with the TDK dongle.
Within the Nokia, the Audio Gateway is shown, and this is shown as
connected.
However in the My Device entry there is also an audio gateway which is not
connected.
Is this Audio Gateway intended to connect a BT headset i.e. sound (mic. and
headphones) are routed via BT.
Wheras I currently have a USB headset providing mic. and headphones, and
there is another audio device (the phone) which has its own BT Audio Gateway
which some unspecified bit of BT on the PC is connected to?
Every time I think about it I get a headache :-(
Presumably an Audio Gateway allows the connection of wireless/cordless
microphone and earphones.
With the Nokia, the PC is acting as mic/phones, using the Nokia's Audio
Gateway.
In turn, the PC is using the USB headset as mic/phones.
If I had a BT headset connected to the PC, this would use the 'My Device'
audio gateway?
In which case I could potentially connect the BT headset (Jabra BT200) to
the PC via the Audio Gateway in the PC, and then connect the PC to the Nokia
6310i via the Audio Gateway in the Nokia, and use the Jabra as a BT headset
for mobile phone calls with the PC in the middle?
(Should I wish to do so).
Or perhaps not?
Cheers

Well, I've not been bluetoothing long, but I'm pretty sure that the profile
(in this
case 'Audio Gateway') must be supported by both devices to make the
connection.
In this case the interesting question becomes: "Can my PC support the Audio
Gateway profile to two different devices (headest and phone) simultaneously,
and route data between the two ... not to mention the possible strain on
bandwidth that would result. Bluetooth only has about 1MBit to begin with,
and I've no idea what the Audio Gateway profile requirements might be...

This is the area giving me a 'visualisation problem'.
I am thinking 'plug and socket' where the status of the 'sockets' is
displayed, but not the 'plugs' (or vice versa?).
As I said, this is prompted by having my PC connected to the audio gateway
on the phone (I presume then that what I am seeing is the status of my end
of the audio gateway <-> audio gateway link) but having another audio
gateway shown as unused.
I think I will try to connect to the PC then connect the PC to the phone.
As you say, bandwidth may be an issue.
If this works, then logically I could connect to two phones at once, and use
my PC to host a conference call, joining in with my USB headset.
