Penblue USB Bluetooth Dongle and Sony Ericsson T610

I am currently trying to get the above set up to "speak" to eachother.
However it appears that one cannot be configured because it cannot
detect the other. i.e. The dongle cannot be properly configured as it
has to detect a device present to complete set up. However the Phone
cannot be configured as it requires to detect the dongle to configure.
How can I get these two devices to recognise eachother
