Phone to headset max range is 3'

Sony Ericsson T608 plus Jabra BT200. Works perfectly if headset is within a
few feet with line of sight, but if my body is in the way the range is only
a foot or so. Is there a way to (1) determine which of the two units is
faulty, and/or (2) improve performance?

Nonsense.

3 feet is about 1 metre. one of the devices is faulty.

take both devices back to where bought, try the headset with other phones
.... do you get same problem? if so then the headset is faulty otherwise it
is your phone.

I find that if there is clear line of site, I get about 20 foot range. If
any body part comes in the way and I get interferrence regardless of the
distance. I also noticed I get better range/reception with a fully charged
headset. I put my phone in the a pocket on my right sleeve so it has line
of sight to my headset.

I don't think you're device is defective.

If there's something broken it's the Jabra headset. The phone "talks" with
the car's Bluetooth from 10-20' away.

Can't give a definitive answer but I do find having my body in between
phone & headset does effect intelligibility considerably. Have seen
reference to this problem several times as well. Audio does seem to be
one of BT's weakest points & being streamed rather than packet based
data may be why. IIRC, the new protocol will lessen these problems when
available.
