Bluetooth Enabled Digital Camera

Posted: 12-03-2003, 08:06 PM
For a project I have to find a Bluetooth enabled digital camera
which is capable of transferring pictures to a personal computer.
So far, I only found the Sony DSC-FX77 camera which uses the
Bluetooth Basic Imaging Profile and the Concord Eye-Q Go camera.

Does anyone know whether there are more Bluetooth enabled cameras on
the market?

Thanks in advance!

Ivo

This came up a few months ago. Those were the only two models known at the
time as well.

Have you considered a bluetooth enabled camera phone?
Nokia 7650, 3650, 6600, SonyEricsson P800, P900 can be used to take pictures
and transfer them over bluetooth. Unfortunately AFAIK they only support
640x480.

Never heard of anything out of the "SONY World" supporting this profile.
So I think it ONLY helps to transfer to other SONY devices.

The Basic Imaging Profile (BIP) is not a Sony standard but an official
Bluetooth
specification, just as Dial Up Profile or the Cordless Telephony Profile.

BIP has got 6 features: Image Push, Image Pull, Advance Image Printing,
Automatic Archive Remote Camera and Remote Display. Epson has developed
a BIP enabled printer which allows images to be printed directly from the
camera:

With BlueSoleil software it is possible to transfer images from the Sony
FX77
digital camera to any portable computer:

So don't blame Sony for using the newest technology! It will not take long
before other companies start using the Basic Imaging Profile

do you know if above software runs on any well known bluetooth card ?
Can i use the BlueSoleil software on top of the widely used widcomm software
?
I've never seen IVT Bluetooth Cards on internet nor in any shop around,
can you point me to where i can get one ?
Does someone have a test report if IVT runs as stable as widcomm ?

Greetings,

Martin

BlueSoleil replaces the WidComm software. You use either Widcomm or
BlueSoleil. This doesn't mean that you cannot use your Widcomm software
anymore once you installed BlueSoleil.

BlueSoleil supports several Bluetooth chipsets:

It works fine with my MSI dongle. I don't have a lot of experience with
the software, but as far as I know it is the only solution to send images
from
the Sony FX77 to a non-Sony computer.

Its the same with synchronization. The "official" Bluetooth protocol is
not supported often but the "serial" profile (which I use also to
synchronize my S55 with my Laptop).

I thought about using the "bluetooth HID" profile which could be
interesting using mouse ... but ONLY Microsoft is using that.

The same with this profile. If they had started with OBEX for the
transfer of pictures (maybe additionaly) then EVERY Bluetooth module
would be able to transfer the pictures. Compare it with USB connectivity
of cameras. First cameras had to use special programs or TWAIN. Nowadays
nearly are just looking like an "extra drive".
The only reason OBEX was not used is that they wanted to be as "closed"
as possible in their SONY world.

Are you sure only Microsoft uses bluetooth HID? I thought the Logitech and
Apple bluetooth keyboards and mice used it as well. Certainly the Widcomm
and Bluesoleil software can be used with the Microsoft mouse so it isn't a
Microsoft-only standard.

I do not agree with that. In fact, BIP runs on top of OBEX.
OBEX can be considered as the lower level service for BIP.
When they only used OBEX, many features offered by BIP
would not be possible (e.g. Automatic Archive or Remote Camera).

BIP is not a Sony protocol and is not 'closed'! The specification is
available at www.bluetoothsig.org.
