PDA Man Gets 270c & BT Module Back From Motorola
Posted: 11-26-2003, 04:26 PM
of the Motorola 270c can see it and see we have developed our own lil
community. As most know, I had a 270c, not a Verizon sold/issueed version. I
subsequently bought the BT Module for the unit and the 270c never displayed
the Bluetooth Menu after connection (thats what is supposed to happen, upon
attaching the module the Phone will now display Bluetooth Link after
pressing MENU-SETTINGS-CONNECTION and then you should see Bluetooth Link.
FYI, if you don't then you should Turn phone off then on, and then if STILL
NOT SHOWING, Power Down- Remove Module/battery and then reattach Battery,
then Modiule and Power Up again. If after all this you do NOT see BLUETOOTH
LINK you probably belong to the 270c Firmware Without Bluetooth Capability
Club. And without telling the complete story over, in short, VERIZON has
decided to NOT support Bluetooth in the 270c so if you bought from VERIZON
it will NOT have the Bluetooth enabled Firmware and nor can you get it from
VERIZON. OK , you are now up to date.
So I sent the Phone back to Motorola to get my phones Software updated. 3
Weeks and 2 days later my phone has been returned Overnite FEDEX after a
very STERN, but not rude or loud, phone call.
Here is the status of the returned phone. I opened the phone to see the
Phone and a New Module. Module was replaced from my physical observation as
well as it says so on the invoice that states they replaced the OPTION
BOARD.(BT Module) The new SOFTWARE VErsion is 2203.01.35and ERI Version is
50019 (Found in MENU -SETTINGS-PHONE STATUS. They also replaced the front
LENS ASSY or BEZEL depending on your Phone education.LOL. Hint, I had
experienced Moto replacing the Lens on earlier repairs and always called it
Preventative Maintemance. I had requested that they replace the Lens Assy
under Preventative Maintenance if they could, and of course threw in some
Pleases and Thank You very muches. I would recommend the same to anyone,
unless sending in new phone.
Upon firing up the phone I was happy to go right to
MENU-SETTINGS-CONNECTION and BlueTooth Link was right there. Now the
Bluetooth Menu in the 270c is rather short and suite compared to my Ericsson
R250m. It goes from BLUETOOTH LINK to HANDSFREE-DEVICES-and SETUP. So I had
to experiment a bit (Manual you say?, I aint reading No Stinking Manual!)
And I got it to Pair with my R250m no problem. So I am waiting for the JABRA
FREESPEAK to charge and I will post those results of that pairing. For now,
this is long enough I bet your saying.
For those that are looking to send their phone to Motorola, I will attach my
Sending Info below again to maybe help you out.:
Reprint from earlier posting regarding sending phone to Motorola Service
Center for Repair:
In regards to Motorola, i am a retired (in term only) wireless dealer so i
am very familiar with Motorola's policies. If you have a warranty repair
(and you have POP, proof of purchase) you dont have to call Motorola
(everyone does anyway) you can just send the phone in. If you call Motorola
all they will tell you to do is the following. First, remove all accessories
from your phone including your cases, batteries (they have lots) cig cords
etc. Jot down your phones ESN or IMEI number and then wrap securely. Use
common sense, wrapping phone up in toliet paper or 3 wraps of newspaper is
not "securely".And remember, the finished package should not be able to be
shaken and the phones sliding all over the place. Bad sign!! Place your
phone in a suitable shipping container along with a letter stating the most
detailed explanation of the problem . You cannot give them too much
information. If the problem only aoccurs when your chewing Wrigleys Gum,
tell them. Then you need to include the return shipping info and contact
numbers.Make sure the ESN/IMEI number is also on this letter. Make sure you
include a COPY of the POP (Proof of purchase) with the letter as well. Make
sure they can find you while your sleeping. If they cant find you, you wont
be the first person to get your phone back after two weeks, unrepaired, with
a letter saying, " Dear Valued Customer, we tried to get a hold of you and
couldnt. So here is your phone unrepaired. It has a bad gizmoo and is not a
warranty issue. If you would like, send us the phone and $100 and we will
replace it.Thanks for buying Motorla!" Get my point!!? Then, and this is
important. Put the SERIAL/IMEI number EVERYWHERE and most important, THE
OUTSIDE OF THE SHIPPING BOX, that is imperative. Motorola receives your
phone at the repair depot by your ESN/IMEI number and Shipping TRACKING
Number. Only use a Shipper that will give a tracking number. When you call
Motorola to discuss your phone, the first question the automated attendant
wants is your phones Mobile Phone Number. From there it will go to the IMEI
for GSM phones (It does not ask for ESN on auto attendant) and then the
Shippers Tracking Number last..Always make sure the phones IMEI or ESN is
marked CLEARLY on the outside of the box as well as your complaint letter
inside the box. I cannot stress that enough. Finally send to (This reflects
some different verbage then my original posting, the actual numbers of the
address are all the same):
