Siemens S55...Do I buy Bluetooth Adapter Class 1 or Class 2? Does it matter?
Posts: n/a I've been looking at bluetooth adapters and see that there is a Class 1 type that is good up to 100m and that there is a Class 2 type that is good up to 10m. Granted, I will only need the one that is good up to 10m at this time however the "better" one is only $5 more in cost. Does anyone know if class 1 or 2 bluetooth will work on the S55? That makes sense however do you know if Class 1 has the same low power consumption when the distance is 10 meters or less, or does class 1 always use more power? If I had to guess though I'd probably presumethat it still uses more power, as otherwise it wouldn't be able detect devices further away than 100m (and would effectively be acting as a class 2 device defeating the point of having greater range). However, I know on some bluetooth class 1 dongles you can manually lower the signal strength (and consequently range); I'd bet that lowers the power consumption but I wouldn't know how comparable that was to a class 2 device.
