BT + J2ME for Siemens S55

Posted: 11-22-2003, 04:55 PM
Hello Everyone,
is that possible to use BT in J2ME environment? I'd like to develop some
midlets using bluetooth for my Siemens S55.
Any useful links?
I have searched trough archives but I found a hint that it's feasible only
for some Possio unit (although it's not available in europe yet I think)
Any advice would be helpful.
Thanks,
Rafal Urbanelis

1) old laptop from ebay + USB BT dongle + some VB/C++ app?
2) some inexpensive symbian BT phone + symbian C++ app?
3) some inexpensive j2me BT phone + java midlet?
4) ...?

any advices helpful

I'd go for the Symbian OS Native C++ On a Nokia. The tools are free for
download from nokia and borland based.
Im planning on doing the same, and have already tried the tools. - There's
even an emulator...

I couldn't find J2ME API for bluetooth (but there is a standard being
developed, which i saw in an earlier post on this newsgroup. but since
forgotten.)

The Nokia 6600 and the SonyEricsson P900 both supports JSR-82 APIs for
Bluetooth MIDlets. I don't know about the 6600, but the P900 needs a
firmware upgrade to fix some shortcomings in the JSR-82 support.

You should be able to do some Bluetooth development on Windows XP, if
you can find the neccessary C++ include files and libs from Microsoft.
You would then need a Bluetooth dongle or one of those new laptops with
Bluetooth built-in.

I believe TDK also has a Bluetooth SDK for their USB dongles and PCMCIA
cards. http://www.tdksystems.com/products/intro.asp?id=22

For Linux and Palm there is a SDK from Rococo Software Ltd. See
http://www.rococosoft.com/ for info on that. And, there's the BlueZ
stack for Linux.

And of course, there's the Possio Wireless Services Gateways,
http://www.possio.com/wsg, also with an implementation of the JSR-82
APIs. It should be available in Europe as Possio is in Sweden.
