iPaq 3870 - Acer BT500 --> LAN ?????

Posted: 11-16-2003, 10:05 PM
Hello Newsgroup,

Does anybody know how to connect the iPaq3870 to a local network ?
I installed the software for the Acer BT500 bluetooth dongle and used the
v1.3.2.7 drivers.
ActivSync works perfectly, but LAN doesn't work.
I always get the error : "Device iPAQ PocketPC does not support service LAN
acces".
Looking at the package of the Acer adapter (reference table) indicates that
Network Access is supported for PC/Notebook and PocketPC.
The types of PC/Notebook and PocketPC are even mentioned :
PC/Notebook : Hitachi FLora 270HX
Pocket PC : Compaq IPAQ 3870.

So I suppose that it has to work but that I'm doing something wrong.

Strange is also the fact that after starting bleutoot manager on my ipaq
doesn't give the option "connect tot LAN"...

Looking at Geekzone didn't solve the problem, unless I did look over it...

Regards,
Zenith

The message "Device iPAQ Pocket PC does not support service LAN" indicates
that you're initiating the LAN connection from your computer.

Have a look in our Bluetooth Guides at
http://www.geekzone.co.nz/content.asp?contentid=449 for step-by-step
instructions and more...

I already read that article, but the option "connect to network access"
probably doesn't exist on the 3870.

The option is part of the Bluetooth Stack 1.1 implemented on Pocket PC OS
2002 (H3870 and H3970). If the other part doesn't offer the service, the
option is not shown.

Check on your host if the Network Access service is available, exists or
enabled.

Bluetooth Stack 1.1 is already installed on my PocketPC (3870).
The network access service is available on my desktop.
The driver "Bluetooth LAN Access Server Driver" is installed and enabled.

If I use "quick connect" , network acces, find devices, the bluetooth
program on my desktop doesn't even find my iPaq, although ActiveSync works
perfectly using BT.
Strange, isn't it.

Zenith

I made some screenshots from my ipaq.
To witch email can I send them so that you can see that 1.1 is installed and
that the option "Network Access" doesn't appear in BT mananger.
Is it normal that in the connections tab from the ipaq, network adapters
only shows three installed adapters :
AsyncMac1 NDISWAN Adapter
NE2000 comatible ethernet driver
PPTP1 NDISWAN Adapter

but that there's no BT adapter in the list ?

I found out what I did wrong.
I forgot the option "Allow other devices to access the Internet/LAN via this
computer".

Thanks for all the reactions.

Btw, where did you get that nice Geekzone background for your PocketPC.
I have been looking on the site, but I didn't see it...
