OT? MSI dongle and Sony DCR-IP7E

Posted: 11-10-2003, 03:43 PM
Hi Group, I hope this isn't considered too off topic, being a Cellular list
an'all. I'm having problems getting Bluetooth connectivity between an MSI
transceiving key and my Bluetooth enabled Sony DCR-IP7E camcorder.
My camcorder shows up in "My Bluetooth Places" but as "No Services
Found". In the camcorder Bluetooth setup it finds my PC and then asks for a
passkey, I've no idea what this is but have tried entering one of my own and
just get "Bluetooth Connection Error" reported back by the camcorder. I get
the feeling I'm missing something obvious, anyone any ideas? TIA.

Regards.

Seems bang on topic to me Sounds like BT Places is seeing the device
& won't know what services it provides until it gets paired. Although I
nearly always pair devices with 0000, I think any 4 digits will do as
long as they are the same on both devices for that pairing. Did you
enter the same passkey on both PC & CC? Check the camcorder's manual to
see if it uses a predefined passkey only & use that if necessary.

Thanks for answering Q, the CC is showing as paired in the MSI utility but
in "My Blutooth Places" I get an icon labled "No Services Found" with a
yellow question mark. At the moment I'm thinking the CC is not giving up
some information but the corresponding menue is pretty simple and doesn't
indicate thet it's not transmitting all that it can. Maybe I'll try
reinstalling the BT hardware & software. Thanks again.

Don't know if this is any use to you, but connecting my PDA to my PC, I can
get most types of connection going PDA -> PC, but if the PC looks at the PDA
it can't see any other services than OBEX push. For some reason it can't
detect the services the PDA is offering, but can accept them when the PDA
initiates the connection. What I'm getting at is, see if you can initiate
the bluetooth connection from the camcorder side and it might connect even
though the PC doesn't see the services on the camcorder.

Keep us posted, I'd be curious if your solution solves mine so I can pack in
using this workround.

Ok, finally rang Sony support who tell me that this Camcorder is only able
via BT to talk to Mobile phones or their own brand of Modem. Sony weirdness
I should have expected, apparently the later models of camcorder offer
better support for BT.

SE are way ahead of the curve with BT which is hardly surprising but
Sony should have spread their BT expertise through to where it was
needed & haven't. The issue I have with Ericsson's bed leaping with Sony
is the P8/900 is stuck at 128MB, the max a memory stick will go without
bank switching

Q, G, thanks for the heads up, at least I can transfer stuff via USB so all
is not lost, just a bit more "tethered" ;o)
