If there were anything you'd like connected to your PDA/Phone/Laptop other
than a headset... or other PDA/Phone/Laptop/Printer..

What would it be?

Im looking for new product ideas.

A bt chatboard for the phone might be cool. Specially if I could use it with
my PDA too. Is that actually workable though?

I'd like a Bluetooth connection between my TV, Video, and Tivo so I can get
rid of those damn unreliable Infra Red snakes that i have to string out
between them.

Other than that, I would really like Bluetooth on my home phone - not cell
phone - landline phone.

A set of micro robots creating a dynamic scatternet and working
collaboratively to map a terrain or rescue earthquake victims etc.

IMO, It's only a matter of time before BT replaces IR for remote
control. I wouldn't mind a landline phone that had BT for exchanging
data like numbers but still used DECT for audio. DECT has far greater
range than anything planned for BT.

Home Automation is one area, from garage door control through to your
washing machine. IR remote controls will be replaced with BT ones. A BT
intercom could allow callers to leave messages, the timer on your cooker
or microwave could be set to alert you in another room.

Teenagers could set their mobiles to broadcast their availability to
others with a desired profile; at work, BT could track your whereabouts
then route calls to you & when hotdesking, your BT tag identifies you &
allows access to the LAN through the nearest PC.

The potential for BT & similar technologies is huge & there are other
technologies being touted such as the even lower powered ZigBee aimed at
low b/w non-ad hoc networks such as monitoring devices in factories.
802.11e is slated to handle video streaming next year & has vastly more
b/w than BT. ZigBee isn't yet available & BT Lite may become a reality
to compete with it. SE's 3G phone, the Z1010 reportedly has BT with a
100m range & who's to say that BT won't evolve to have greater b/w,
multiple channels or faster recognition. ZigBee's handshaking supposedly
happens in milliseconds unlike BT which is deathly slow & IMO, the worst
aspect of BT.

There are other more specialist technologies such as RFID which will
replace barcodes & security sensors in shops. RFID uses passive tags
that require no power. This link:
http://tinyurl.com/u69t
mentions another system called LibertyLink which uses a magnetic field
instead of an electric one to address problems of interference between
all these potentially crowded frequencies:
http://www.auracomm.com/Product/LibertyLink.asp
As more & more RF devices get used, interference & security will
probably become an issue as will standards as various parts of the world
use their frequency spectrum differently & the cost just too high to
adhere to international ones. IIRC, BT in France has slightly lower b/w
for this very reason. Cordless Landline phones already have a very
robust, 30-300m range & high quality air interface with DECT & there's
little point in BT reinventing the wheel but many devices use
proprietary RF coms that could use ZigBee - my cordless cycle computer
suffers from interference if I take my bike on a train.

We all have the European Union to thank for making this explosion in RF
technology far more easily available in biting the painful & initially
expensive bullet called the EMC Directive (CE marking). Even America sat
up & listened to that one.

How about an adaptor that would plug into a non BT handset (LG
VX6000/Verizon, ie.) to give it handsfree capability for use in BT-enabled
autos?
