Toshiba Portege 3500 and Sony Ericsson HBH-35 Headset

Posted: 09-02-2003, 09:54 PM
Can somebody tell me if its possible to successfully link the above pieces
of equipment? I may be barking up the wrong tree but I'd like to be able to
use the headset to voice control the PC, or even better as a microphone for
speech recognition. Is this possible in theory (failing any specific
instructions for the Toshiba and SE headset.

Thanks.

In addition; can the bluetooth connection on the Sony Ericsson P800 be used
as a modem?

Check out this site for more detailed information.
http://www.geekzone.co.nz/ Be sure to check out the Bluetooth guides in
particular.

The short answer is that you need to determine if the Toshiba has Bluetooth
drivers that support the headset profile. ( I am assuming that you have
bluetooth built-in) If you don't have BT built-in then you need a BT
adapter such as one of the many USB dongles available. If you go the dongle
route you need one that supports headset profile. Usually if the dongle uses
Widcomm drivers and they support version 1.3.x and above you're ok, but be
sure to check before you buy.

A bit of caution regarding using BT for audio. I have heard reports that the
audio quality can be poor and that the signal tends to break up when the CPU
is under heavy load. I'd be interested in hearing how well it works for you.

You can also use the Sony as a modem via bluetooth. If you have the right
service provider you can dial any ISP number from the phone and log in. If
you have ATT WS like I do you can only dial the GPRS number for ATT and get
Internet access that way.

Cheers
TC

(incidentally, I'm handwriting this at the moment!)
Unfortunately,I have a Plantronics M1000 headset which doesn't
support PC audio. Actually took a while to get BT working as Toshiba
hadn't shipped the right Stack.
they've told me that their current stack don't support audio -but
they're "working on it"!?!
The Geek zone URL is definitely a good look, though I wouldn't mind
hearing from someone who has actually pulled this off.

Incidentally, my "available profiles" that the 3500 recognises as
belonging to my Sony-Ericsson T68i shows a profile called "voice
gateway" which I understand, is supposed to enable Transferring of
audio from handset to PC!

Hope some of this helps.
