Widcomm & D-link DBT 120 problem

Posted: 08-23-2003, 11:31 PM
Hello all

I've been using my dlink usb dongle without problem for weeks. However I
brought I to work last week to test it on a macintosh laptop (nice BT
integration in OS X by the way), and now that I've plugged it back on my PC
it doesn't work anymore ...

I've reinstalled the widcomm 1.4 package from dlink website, have random
reset when I start the computer with the dongle plugged in. When it doesn't
crash, the bluetooth icon in the tray blinks from "white on blue" to "red on
blue" randomly for a very short period of time. Impossible to discover new
devices...

I've cleaned the registry, removed the software, reinstalled the whole thing
with no success... If someone have a clue about what's going on with my BT
setup, please let me know. I'm running XP SP1 professional.

David

Hi,
It looks like you have blown the hardware.
Greetings, Bernd

David,

I had similiar problems on a re-install with my DBT-120. Here's the steps
that I used:

1. Uninstalled D-Link Utility program in control panel.
2. Deleted D-Link folder in Program Files (the uninstall left some dll's for
me).
3. REBOOT and ran Norton WINDOCTOR to clean up stray registry entries.
4. Deleted the Bluetooth network connection created by the setup program.
When you reinstall, a new one will be created.
5. Deleted any virtual modem connections that I created after my install for
Fax, DUN.
6. REBOOT and ran Norton WD.
7. Pulled down fresh copy of 1.4 drivers from support site.
8. Disabled Norton IS and AV.
9. Disconnected from my wireless network and removed WiFi pci card.
10. Ran setup program BEFORE inserting adapter. You'll get a message during
the install something like "the usb device can not be found". Then insert
adapter and click OK.

Hope this helps and let me know how it goes.

Sounds like it might just be one of those times to reinstall/repair the
operating system to fix. Shouldn't be too bad with winXP.
