Re: One dongle, different PCs... pairing problem? Posted: 07-26-2003, 08:28 PM HiI have the same problem moving the Belkin dongle from PC to laptop the phone a T68i still sees the PC, also I accidentally changed the name of the phone then changed it back now nothing I do will make the laptop see the phones current name. It's almost as if the info is written to the dongle's memory. As I write this I can't get them to pair at all. I may give up... Incidentally I have an iPAQ, which also sees the laptop as the PC via the Belkin dongle. It would be interesting to know what dongle "Neevok" bought and if it worked any better. Re: One dongle, different PCs... pairing problem? Posted: 07-27-2003, 07:45 PM They link key generated during the pairing procedureis not stored on the dongle's internal storge. Usually, the Bluetooth stack running on the PC stores either in a file or in the registry. So, if you move the dongle among several devices, you will have to reinitiate the pairing all over again. I don't know which software stack you are using on the PC side, atleast I know that the MS stack stores the key in the registry. Hope this helps. /kmk In article <oprsvawhs4nscnj4@news.charter.net>, jgarbers@mindspring.com says... > I have a Belkin F8T003 USB Bluetooth dongle that I use to connect to my > Nokia 3650. > There are some consistency problems with the connection -- for example, I'm > asked > to re-pair the device frequently. Re: One dongle, different PCs... pairing problem? Posted: 07-28-2003, 01:47 PM Thank you, that's pretty much what I figured. I did find thegenerated key in the registry on my XP box; not sure where to look on the iMac, though. I'll try to propagate the key around and see if that keeps pairing easier. Thanks! I have two MSI USB-Bluetooth transceivers. (100-200m) One for my laptop, and one for my desktop. My bluetooth network also consists of my Ericsson T39m mobile phone (10m), which is recognised by both pc's for connecting to the internet and synchronising files etc.. On my laptop (through bluetooth) I also use the 56k modem which is connected to my desktop via a serial cable. cheers Neevok > > John > They warned me about BT being new technology... > > >"Neevok" > > this is exactly why I bought another dongle > > > > >-----Original Message----- > > >"Jeff Garbers" > > > I have a Belkin F8T003 USB Bluetooth dongle that I use to connect to my > > > Nokia 3650. > > > There are some consistency problems with the connection -- for example, > > > I'm > > > asked > > > to re-pair the device frequently. Re: One dongle, different PCs... pairing problem? Posted: 07-30-2003, 11:17 PM The other thing to understand is that the bluetooth device is recognized byits pairing partner by is MAC address - so if you move the dongle to another PC, the phone thinks it is talking to the same machine, but when it tries to check the pairing information, it fails because that information is unique to the PC. It was never meant to be used in this way I expect; buy another dongle.... Re: One dongle, different PCs... pairing problem? Posted: 07-31-2003, 02:04 PM Thanks for the advice -- I had also come to that conclusion. If therewas just a way to ENTER a key, that'd make things work pretty well, but the technology's too smart for that, I guess! My overall reaction to Bluetooth hasn't been very good. I somehow assumed that it would automatically recognize and connect to devices; yet I have to explicitly tell my Nokia 3650 to connect to the Jabra headset every time I want to use it. I can't use the phone as a GPRS connection to the Internet at the same time the headset is connected. And it seems like I'm always having to reconnect or reboot, although that may have to do with confusion over the keys. With the headset in particular, the lack of a wire is nice, but the ease of use of the wired headset is hard to beat.. Just plug it in when you want to use it and unplug it when you don't, no worries about pairing, charging, ten-keypress connection sequence, etc. On the other hand, if you avoid Nokia's desktop software, it's pretty easy to transfer items in and out of the phone. I hope they get the user experience stuff ironed out soon. It still really has the air of a hobbyist technology. Thanks again!
