BlueTooth Questions

How quickly can two Bluetooth devices find each other?

For instance if two people had bluetooth enabled laptops how long would it
take fo rthe devices to see each other

And also what is the transfer rate of bluetooth?

I've read the transmission range is 10 metres but then see other people
advertsing 40m - is this right?

Hi, De.

A Bluetooth device can find other devices somewhere between several
seconds and several tens of seconds by executing the inquiry procedure
in the current version(Bluetooth Ver1.1).

But, at an early date, the Bluetooth Ver1.2 will adopt a new
technology, which is called "Fast Connection". This technology allow
you to find other devices more quickly.

The maximum data transfer rate of the Bluetooth is approximately 721
Kbps (one way, asynchronous).

The transmission range of the Bluetooth is classified according to
"Power Class":
10m - this range is covered by "Power Class 3".
40m - this range is covered by "Power Class 2".
100m - this range is covered by "Power Class 1". This is maximum.

Therefore, 10m is correct as you say, and 40m is also correct.

Haru,

Thankyou for the response,

That certainly helps me to better understand Bluetooth.

What is the best way to go about learning to program in bluetooth - by that
I mean not only the cheapest product, but are there any licence free ways to
devlop Bluetooth applications.

say for example - is it possible to develop applications for Bluetooth
mobile phone that are royalty free?

I've looked onthe Nokia webiste and it talks about an SDK for C++ - I
thought there might be one for Java.

What class do most mobile phones have? And are most now switching to version
1.2 ?
