If you use redhat, you have to disable the non-bluez bluetooth driver
otherwise it takes priority.

The noddy way to do this is to do a rmmod bluetooth.o
insmod hci_usb.o

before plugging in the dongle.

The proper way is to alter modules.conf to give priority to bluez
